While that incredible diversity is whatever cities -- greatest historic strengths it can also create significant challenges. Nearly half of all Yorkers speak a language other than English at home and nearly a quarter of New Yorkers lacking basic understanding an English at all. Let them every interaction with city government can be fraught with difficulty. I remember when I've visited Beijing and Shanghai last year to meet with Chinese business leaders I didn't go anywhere without a translating. And I still sometimes have problems getting my point across. So I can only imagine how daunting it is for a New Yorker with limited proficiency in English to complete a seemingly straightforward task. “…In July New York or host Major League Baseball all star game at Yankee Stadium and event that will put the South Bronx in the national spotlight. And that's great news because the South Bronx is back and ready for its closeup on the world stage. Over the past six years we've done a lot of work to revitalize the area. As a result the South Bronx is seeing some three billion dollars worth of new investment. That is supporting new housing development. New shopping center -- new mass transit infrastructure and new schools. Last week our administration unveiled a vision for the South Bronx that will capitalize on these gains developing strong neighborhoods. Creating thousands of new jobs. We call our vision the South Bronx initiatives. It's collaborative effort created in consultation with the Borough president and other elected officials as well as Bronx community boards and neighborhood organizations. Initiative a lot will allow us to develop the last city -- sites in the Melrose section in the South Bronx for affordable housing. This will add to the thousands and affordable homes that are already slated to be built here by the year 30. We'll also capitalized on the soon to be open gateway -- and the new parks being developed along the Harlem river. . By encouraging Nixon's office retail and residential development.
