" The week on Wall Street ended with a whimper after consumer sentiment for mid August came in much lower than expected. And that wasn't the week's only disappointment for investors we look at the week ahead on Wall Street with MarketWatch Wall Street reporter Larry Kofsky."
" Well Adrian there are lots of speed bumps along the road to economic recovery we hit one last week when July retail sales came in below expectations. This week we'll be watching for data including housing starts home resales and wholesale inflation. Analysts are anticipating a smooth ride PNC financial chief economist Stuart Hoffman thinks the housing market is starting to gain momentum."
" Toll Brothers CEO said the other day that you know there there -- seen more traffic and -- people work. Back and often still pressure on our pressure on prices I think the home sales numbers sure don't look -- little better."
" Economists surveyed by MarketWatch see home resales improving by better than 2% in July. Housing starts a measure of home construction expected to rise by more than 5%. Producer prices should remain in check for at least one more month."
" In July restored to benefit the low gasoline prices unfortunately that starts going up late in the month of July and haven't been particularly friendly over the last few weeks here in August -- but it July I think she pretty tame inflation data."
" Our survey of economists is calling for 1% decline in the Producer Price Index 110 of 1% excluding food and energy. Also this week we'll look into the future with a conference board's index of leading economic indicators a modest gain is expected. --"
" Thanks Larry. Gamers haven't got as much game as they used to."
" John -- and Kate's are here to explain have you been buying a lot of video games what do you haven't what are you doing instead you're doing nothing. You just sitting there on the couch like our consumer race and Kate's."
" Yes."
" video game sales are down."
" Yes there there are way down that they've been holding up pretty well during a recession but the last few months we have seen. That demand for or video game consoles like the Wii and for different video games out there have been really been unexpectedly soft. And you know what football season coming up. That means one thing for gamers it's right Madden NFL ten is out. And that is one of the games and industry analysts say should be AS strong seller. Because in order for for a video games to rebound they're up about 14% for the year so far. If they want and the year well they need to gain that much between now and Christmas so. They're banking on Madden NFL the latest version of that also there's going to be a Beatles version of Guitar Hero and or Tuesday of rock band and also Halo 3 that's a very popular. Teen video games so so the industry is banking on all of these. Helping to and to give it a boost despite the recession and the downturn with people not spending these days and it's been quite a slide I mean what. Five months the end of the last nine months it's just been it's been unbelievable I mean just. A year or two ago you could you do with the Wii Nintendo's week. There are selling out. Literally this second people walked into stores -- lines for them and people were buying them for a thousand dollars on eBay and things like that. Sales of the week just for example is down by 55%. Let's it's it's just. It's just yet another sign about what the economy is doing the Consumer Spending."
" And how world being cautious right now -- it's interesting to see how consumers to find out what's essential and once not essential. And it sounds like the F clearly pleased video games in the non essential category yet and if your video game player which I am I mean certainly if you're if you're tied for money display the one Girardi have."
" There's a concept sampling amble over and over element Albert and some of the house videogames. Are the kind that take a long time to -- the Zelda games in plain dealer appeared in the months. So to start those from the beginning. --"
" What advice there from consumer race and -- San Diego not only -- she do news cans for the market launch radio network. Not only does he track consumer trends for this podcast. But she offers tips on video game that's right these are your yeah. And she's in Qatar here and I just discovered that. Hank what you're in your nickname was sludge or something right."
" Obviously one -- sludge now it's not it's a long story let's -- though I unless you're."
" I don't Waste Management or something then yes -- that new video game by Waste Management Newton. Consumer race and case thank you very much of what is if you -- reach out to us and I have and they do that they can -- is -- MarketWatch radio newsroom at Yahoo.com. On Twitter at MW radio or look this up on FaceBook at MarketWatch radio network may be should start tweaking video game and Verizon's camps for people out there and they can. Trackers on what are."
" Especially as Madden NFL because of my vast sports knowledge -- that I'd be very helpful you know what sport that is yes that's football okay."
" Ding ding ding ding -- thing yeah."
" Go on. And borrowed trillions and Newton and thank you thank you thanks John and man. Archie comics issue number 600 hits stores on Wednesday. This is the one who's -- shows Archie proposing to Veronica apparently resulting 67 year old love triangle. Many Archie fans are protesting saying blind -- should be getting -- rather than the rich Brunet Veronica. Archie comics editor in chief victor -- tells the AP people all over the world are reacting to march east choice in almost every but he feels -- for bedie. But he says cryptically if you read the whole issue. Happens. And that's it for Money Markets & More. I'm Adrian Mitchell thanks for listening -- time."
