" And I'm John word doc also coming up we are gonna talk about some names that you are familiar with in the marketplace. Then did go out of business but they're back again right -- it was like a Linens 'n Things it may be Circuit City and -- our consumer race will have all the details in a moment but first this reminder -- the latest buzz on Wall Street -- Morning Stock Talk marketwatch.com. Slash podcast."

" On the -- court getting new numbers on initial jobless claims and existing home sales. Companies reporting earnings include Microsoft Amazon.com. Fifth Third Bank Marriott American Express her she's Black & Decker Goodrich cavalier homes. Philip Morris ConocoPhillips. Raytheon Supervalu stories and -- factory outlets. On the state in business history in 1635. Boston Latin school was -- it was the nation's first public school. In 1867. An early kind of movie was patented William Lincoln's invention does -- Mounted a string of drawings and wheeled to show animated pictures in 1985."

" The incredible has happened the impossible has become a reality. -- actually taste better than ever before Coca-Cola released a new Coke I'm standing here with this ice cold there's -- deliciously satisfying Coca-Cola and it actually taste better."

" It was one of the biggest blocks in retail history people hated the -- the original Coke was back in less than three months. And in 1988."

" Yeah."

" Pink Floyd's dark side of the moon album finally fell off the charts and -- on the billboard 200 for more than fourteen year. By the way dark side is still number 185. In music on Amazon.com. Stocks sank in the final minutes of trading as investors sold financial stocks after Wells Fargo reported earnings that were on target but Morgan Stanley turned in a larger than expected loss. There was some good news from retailers including JC -- and McDonald's and a government report that home prices were up a little in February but that wasn't enough to hold the moderate gains of earlier in the day. Tech stocks still a little better thanks in part to news that eighteenth -- is still selling lots of iphones and new job cuts to Yahoo!. The Dow closed down 83 points the NASDAQ up to the S&P down nearly seven. We can't seem to get enough of the iPhone. ATT's exclusive on the phone is helping the company do better than expected. It's reporting lower earnings but AT&T signed up 875000. Customers in the first three months of the year. And most of them chose the iPhone and iPhone users pay 60% higher monthly fees. After the close apple reported a jump in profits on strong sales of iphones and iPods. And eBay reported better than expected results but sales slipped at Pizza Hut and KFC Yum! Brands reported profit down 14%. Companies you thought might be dead are really. Fun dead how. Oh there's no such thing as a zombie company at least we don't think so. But John and and have found out the names that are coming back to life."

" It's certainly been tough for many retailers these days in fact as you know some of them have gone out of business they've liquidated like Circuit City and Linens 'n Things. But that's not stopping some companies stronger companies from trying to take those names over. And use them to their benefit and joining us to talk more about this is and hates our consumer ace who follows the marketplace for us. So and who's doing this and why."

" We have companies that are actually the liquidators as those of the firms that help. Companies help retailers go through their final days with the shutting down process now some of them decided to buy these brand names. And they're turning around and doing different things with them for example -- remembers sharper image that went out of business a while back. So now this company has turned around and is making sharper image branded merchandise and that in turn those in -- are being sold to add at places like Macy's and pennies. And Bed Bath & Beyond that's one of the things are doing well it didn't work the first time why would a consumer go out there aren't buying something with a sharper image name the second time well analysts are kinda mixed about that some say a brand name. That everyone knows has value no matter what -- but you're right they're they're competing against. Brand names uttered the still up in kicking made him go out of business or have problems with their customers are never so. It it's a tough call who's who did who knows but these companies do think. That they're going to see strong sales from some of these branded items and I guess Linens 'n Things I mean you could probably put that in department store. -- look honey it's Linens 'n Things it's Barack and and there and it actually Linens 'n Things is back it's back online selling not only sheets and towels but also stuff for pets and babies things like that. So that that's up and running -- damaged and see how that goes. And remember Bombay. The mall retailer that sold furniture yes those very small seats made -- a nice would remember them. Well -- in the same cables not I think I'll take little clamps on right right well that now of the company. I bought that brand name is thinking of developing a line of furniture called Monday. Which I think departure is called Bombay anyway but instead of you know -- they're gonna sell one of furniture says so those are some of the things being bounce out there's another company wants to buy the Circuit City name. But still sort of in limbo right now. But their thinking about doing so -- these names are coming back alive you know find where a small time electronics retailers somewhere. I would by the Circuit City named. You know."

" Com and don't the second setting your assets Barack com we got stereos and TVs -- at home. But again you make it may be a negative connotation wouldn't help you it's it's it's just there it's very hard to tell. And we really do have customer service now unlike the previous Circuit City and what didn't have any thing to come on down."

" I guess there are warts that have to be sort of taken care and even then. Consumer race and Cates always giving us the scoop on what's going out there in the world. Of consumer activity and action and money flow in the marketplace thanks and thank you thanks -- and."

" If you haven't tried McDonald's -- cafe we'll have more opportunities to use and the for -- to style coffee drinks are already 10000 restaurants in McDonald's says it'll finish rolling out -- cafe in US stories in a couple more months. Or if -- in the mood for the harder stuff the world's largest beer wine and spirits company. DI -- says it's getting up plant in Illinois ready to churn out more of those ready to drink cocktails including the smear not pomegranate martini he -- grand cosmopolitan and money."
